Since March 2004, Jeff Kobrick has been a partner in the Silicon Valley law firm Cooke Kobrick & Wu LLP. Jeff’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation in state and federal courts, securities litigation, SEC investigations and enforcement matters, contract disputes, business litigation of all kinds, theft of trade secrets, unfair competition, intellectual property, employment, and appeals. Before forming CKW, he was Senior Trial Counsel for nearly five years with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Boston and San Francisco. He was lead trial counsel for the SEC in enforcement actions in United States District Courts involving a wide range of securities law issues, including insider trading, securities fraud in the offer and sale of securities, financial and accounting fraud by public companies, and broker dealer violations.

Before he joined the SEC, Mr. Kobrick was a litigator at Bingham Dana LLP (now Bingham McCutchen LLP) and at Gaston & Snow and handled a variety of complex litigation matters in state and federal court. Mr. Kobrick has handled a number of cases involving significant legal issues at the trial and appellate level that have been reported, including McMunn v. Pirelli Tire, LLC, 161 F. Supp.2d 97 (D. Conn. 2001); SEC v. Pinez, 989 F. Supp. 325 (D. Mass. 1997); Mertens v. Hewitt, 508 U.S. 248 (1993); A.L. v. Commonwealth, 521 N.E.2d 1017 (Mass. 1988); Adedeji v. United States, 1988 U.S. Dist. Lexis, 17269 (D. Mass. 1988); Blackburn v. Snow, 771 F.2d 556 (1st Cir. 1985); Princiotta v. New England Telephone. Co., 532 F. Supp. 1009 (D. Mass. 1982); Lynch v. King, 550 F. Supp. 325 (D. Mass. 1982), affirmed sub nom Lynch v. Dukakis, 719 F.2d 504 (1st Cir. 1983); DeVasto v. Faherty, 658 F.2d 859 (1st Cir. 1981);Wolf v. Commissioner of Public Welfare, 327 N.E.2d 885 (Mass. 1975); Leonard v. United States Postal Service, 489 F.2d 814 (1st Cir. 1974).

Mr. Kobrick has taught a course in Federal Litigation at Stanford Law School since 1998 and a course there in Trial Advocacy since 2003, where he has been Consulting Professor and Lecturer in Law. He taught courses in Federal Litigation and Professional Responsibility at Harvard Law School, where he was a Lecturer on Law and Visiting Professor from 1979-1995.

He received his BA from the University of Chicago with honors and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School with honors and was Order of the Coif and an Editor of the Law Review, and clerked with a U.S. District Judge in New Orleans, Louisiana.
